Ken Livingstone
Socialist politician and distinguished supporter of Humanism
Born in 1945, Ken Livingstone is best known as the left-wing Labour MP for Hackney North (1977 – 81), Paddington (1986 – 81) and Brent East (1987 – 2001) , leader of the GLC from 1981 until its abolition by the Conservative government in 1986, and Mayor of London from 2000 to 2008. As Mayor he introduced the congestion charge in London.
He has often been a controversial figure, supporting leftist causes and world leaders like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez and dialoguing with Islamists.
