Comedian and distinguished supporter of Humanism
Robin Ince is a supporter of the Rationalist Association via New Humanist, and since 2008 has organised annual December “Lessons and Carols for Godless People” at the Bloomsbury Theatre and Hammersmith Apollo, celebrating science and featuring scientists, musicians and comedians. In 2009, he organised two events with Josie Long, called “Darwin’s Birthday Spectacular”, marking Darwin’s 200th birthday and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species. He explained his enthusiasm for science and how he combines it with comedy in The Independent in April 2011. He has been awarded the Time Out Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.
On 15 September 2010, Ince, along with 54 other public figures, signed an open letter published in The Guardian, stating their opposition to Pope Benedict XVI’s state visit to the UK.
