Membership drive
The BHA is a membership association. We represent the humanist position of our members in the public square.
We do not exist in order to grow our membership. We grow in order to make our voice stronger.
We grow as more and more people discover that their view of the world corresponds with Humanism and that there is an organisation representing their views in a smart, coherent way at a national level.

| Members support our work by lending their voice to our campaigns. MPs, Peers, and others in the media and public bodies listen to us because we have built a solid reputation for rational and principled engagement on questions of policy, ethics and social issues. But decision makers also need to know that we represent many thousands of people. When you lend us your voice you make our case stronger. | Members provide crucial financial support. Our members trust us with their subscription because they know the way we work is efficient, targeted and completely transparent. The BHA receives the great majority of its income from membership subscriptions and donations, supporting important work that cannot pay for itself. |

| Members feed in to BHA policy, actions and the focus of our work. Our policies are drawn not just from our shared Humanism but from our members’ experiences, opinions and needs. Our messages have all the more impact because of the shared feedback and new ideas that members bring to the association every day. | Members take part, get involved, campaign and speak out. Action by many members is often essential to campaigning success. Whether writing targeted letters or signing petitions, responding to consultations or calls for evidence, members with a wide range of skills and experiences take part in our campaign actions. We defend human rights, call for fairness and equality, and demand a secular state in an open society. |
We want our membership to grow because growth means more of all of the above.
In addition, many of our members are also involved in local groups, connect in our online members’ forum or contribute to HumanistLife, volunteer on local SACREs and as Local Development Volunteers, work as humanist celebrants, attend our lectures and events and take part in our annual day conferences.
Let’s grow!
From the beginning of 2010 we have set an ambitious target for our membership. In the last five years our membership has doubled.
We want our membership to double again. In half the time.
Remember, we don’t want to grow for the sake of it! We want to grow because we know that membership is vital to achieving our aims and accelerating our activities.
