Alpha course poll finds 96% of people do not believe in god

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has commented on the results of an online poll by the Alpha course, which found 96% of respondents did not believe that god exists.

Naomi Phillips, Public Affairs Officer, commented, ‘That this poll has revealed such a high number of non-believers, and such a tiny proportion of those who do believe in a god, is really no surprise. This poll only supports what we know already – that most people either do not believe in god or that they simply do not think about the question because it is not relevant to their lives.’

Ms Phillips continued, ‘The overwhelming public support for our Atheist Bus Campaign earlier this year, as well as the large increase in the BHA’s membership and supporters, only adds to that position.’
