British Humanist Association welcomes first Protest the Pope event

29 March, 2010

The British Humanist Association (BHA) has welcomed the first event of the Protest the Pope campaign, which held a public demonstration on Sunday 28th March in front of Westminster Cathedral in central London.

Naomi Phillips, BHA Head of Public Affairs said, ‘Sunday’s protest was particularly significant as it was the first protest against the Pope in terms of his personal role in the covering up of sex abuse, and the first to demand the Pope’s resignation. We are looking forward to holding further events within the Protest the Pope campaign, to express our support for secular principles, women’s equality and reproductive rights, and equal rights for all regardless of their sexual orientation – all areas  where the Pope’s policies have a generally dismal record.’
