Another five speakers have been announced for the Humanists UK Convention 2020, taking place at The Oval in London over the weekend of 19–21 June.
Today Humanists UK has announced that columnist Polly Toynbee, philosopher Professor A C Grayling, social historian Professor Callum Brown, extremism expert Julia Ebner, and comedy legend Robin Ince will join a cast of speakers that already includes the broadcaster and anatomist Professor Alice Roberts, journalist Samira Ahmed, green energy expert Professor Saiful Islam, and broadcaster and humanist celebrant Carol Smillie at what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Humanists UK Conventions to date – with many surprises still in store.
Hosting our Friday evening comedy is Robin Ince,an award-winning comedian, writer, and broadcaster, well-known for hosting of the Infinite Monkey Cage, alongside Prof. Brian Cox.
Over Saturday and Sunday at the Convention, we will be joined by Polly Toynbee – a Guardian columnist, broadcaster, and Vice President of Humanists UK, and Professor A C Grayling, a humanist philosopher of international renown, author of over 30 books, and also a Humanists UK Vice President.
Delving into the past will be Professor Callum Brown, a historian and author specialising in the history of humanism, religion, and secularisation in the UK, and founder of the Humanist Studies Hub at the University of Glasgow. 
And having spoken at Humanists UK Convention 2017, Julia Ebner returns for 2020 – an extremism researcher, she is author of The Rage: the vicious circle of far right and Islamist extremism.
But there’s more waiting to be announced. Further scientists, authors, philosophers, historians, activists, comedians, and more will be revealed in the coming months as Convention 2020 approaches.
The Humanists UK Convention has grown in recent years to become the highlight event of the humanist calendar. It is always a wonderful opportunity for humanists to gather, eat, drink, network, and celebrate humanism. This year’s Convention begins on 19 June, and closes on 21 June, coinciding with global celebrations for World Humanist Day. It will take place at the magnificent Oval cricket ground in London – a city which has been a centre of humanist thought for over two centuries, as well as the birthplace of Humanists UK in 1896 and home to almost one million people who self-identify as humanists.
