Born in 1967 in Barry,Wales, Simon Price is a British music journalist, currently best known for his weekly reviews in The Independent on Sunday and his book on the Manic Street Preachers. He first made his name at Melody Maker, where he worked from December 1988 and was sometimes criticised for what they saw as an overtly intellectual style and for his criticism of bands such as Oasis. He also courted controversy with his view that the hippie/crusty scene of the time was covertly racist due to what he saw as romantic nostalgia for a bygone rural England.
On 15 September 2010, along with 54 other public figures, Simon Price signed an open letter, published in The Guardian, stating opposition to Pope Benedict XVI’s state visit to the UK. He also contributed toThe Atheist’s Guide to Christmas (2010).
