Stewart Lee

Comedian, broadcaster and lyricist of “Jerry Springer the Opera”

The resurgence of fundamentalism has been an unpleasant surprise. Now many of us want to stand up for the freedoms we’ve enjoyed. Joining Humanists UK is one way to meet likeminded people and lobby against the excesses of religions.

LeeStewart Lee was born in 1968 in England. He has written for radio, television, newspapers and magazines and performed as a stand-up comedian all over the world. His first novel, The Perfect Fool, was published in July 2001.

In December 2005 he told the Central London Humanist group about the lies and intimidation he encountered from Christian extremists trying to stop his musical play “Jerry Springer: the Opera” – and he defended the right of theatre to challenge and offend. In 2008 and 2009 he participated in “Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People” (see http://tiny.cc/oekbf)
