Director of Ceremonies

The Director of Ceremonies, a new position within Humanists UK, will be responsible for developing and implementing business plans for sustainable growth for Humanist Ceremonies™ our arm providing humanist weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies. They will be responsible for creating and implementing strategies to grow this arm of the charity to provide 10% of all UK ceremonies by 2025.

The Director of Ceremonies has line management responsibility for the Ceremonies Training and Development Manager and works closely with the Humanist Ceremonies Marketing Officer, as well as a team of administrators who provide support to humanist celebrants and facilitate training courses for new celebrants.

Humanists UK is seeking someone who can demonstrate leadership skills within a large organisation, business, or charity. We are looking for a candidate who can proactively apply business intelligence in developing, implementing, and maintaining strategic business plans directed towards the growth of our market share. The post-holder will need to swiftly develop relationships with key stakeholders within the ceremonies industry.

This position will be on a part time basis of 21 hours per week. The salary will be in the region of £42,000 (FTE £70,000). Holiday entitlement is 15 days per annum (FTE 25) plus public holidays. The appointment will become permanent after a probation period of three months.

Scrutiny and Performance Board member (consultancy)

The Scrutiny and Performance Board will support the promotion, growth, and successful business planning of Humanist Ceremonies, both as a standalone service for people in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland who choose to have a non-religious ceremony and, as a key element of the charity Humanists UK.

The Board will consist of six members, including the Director of Ceremonies and the Chief Executive. The Board is accountable to the Humanists UK Chief Executive.

Two vacancies will be filled by accredited celebrants with the appropriate senior strategic management and Board experience. Two vacancies will be filled with candidates who are not celebrants.

Candidates will have the ability to scrutinise, challenge, and support the leadership of Humanist Ceremonies, You’ll have experience in business planning, evaluation, and providing challenge to senior staff.
