From climate change sceptics to vaccine deniers, there’s plenty of folk out there who aren’t convinced by science and instead turn to conspiracy theories. It is tempting to use all the facts in your arsenal when arguing with folk who would rather believe their Facebook feed than the body of evidence. But hitting them with a barrage of facts can actually be counterproductive. So what approach should you take when talking to science deniers?

Professor Mark Lorch is a chemist, writer and science communicator at the University of Hull. He is passionate about communicating science to as wide an audience as possible.
