Young Humanists is the 18-35 section of Humanists UK. We want a world where tolerance, empathy and reason prevail, and where policy is created on the basis of evidence and equality. We work to ensure that more and more young people are aware of and active in Humanism at the local level, and provide a national voice on issues that are relevant to them.

It couldn’t be simpler to join Young Humanists – just join Humanists UK (it’s free for students) and add your date of birth on your dashboard.

Keep an eye out for Young Humanists events in your area on Twitter, Facebook and our Events page.

Meet the team

Coordinator – Lauren Nicholas

Lauren is the Coordinator of Young Humanists, responsible for managing the overall activity of the section.

By day, she works as a data science consultant across the public and private sectors, and prior to that managed projects for a national multi-academy trust. She has a degree in Cognitive Neuroscience, and experience volunteering with children and insects (sometimes together…).

Secretary – Holly Austin-Davies

Holly works as a knowledge librarian in London, and is a qualified wedding celebrant. She is particularly interested in LGBT issues, reproductive rights and the assisted dying debate.

She lives in Kent with her husband, and enjoys cooking, travelling and finding creative ways to avoid doing any housework.

She joined the Young Humanists Executive as Secretary in November 2017.

Events Manager – Julian Webb

Julian has been involved in the humanist movement since founding the University of Exeter’s Humanist Society in 2013. After graduating from university, he set up and ran Exeter Humanists and served as the Membership Administration Officer for Humanist Students.

He now helps to run Chichester Humanists and works in the publishing industry.

He joined the Young Humanists Executive as Events Manager in November 2016.

Communications Manager – Sophia Kesteven

Sophia recently moved all the way to the UK from Perth, Western Australia, to study moral and environmental philosophy at UCL.

She has always been inspired by the idea that we have one life to make the most of and believes the best way to do so is through reason, rationality, care for each other and the environment, and good philosophy puns. It was only earlier this year she discovered everything she believed in had a name – Humanism!

When not trying to formulate the best way to live, Sophia can be found at spoken word nights, reading in quiet cafes, or hiking across wherever needs to be hiked.
