Legal recognition for humanist marriages

We’re fighting for a basic human right – to believe what we like and marry who we love.

Today marks the beginning of our landmark legal case. Six couples are fighting for the legal recognition of humanist marriages in England and Wales, and we’re supporting them every step of the way. Over the last seven years, we’ve campaigned tirelessly for legal recognition of our ceremonies. We’ve built a strong case. And with you by our side, we’re confident we can win.

Humanist marriages are already recognised in Scotland, Jersey, Ireland, and Northern Ireland. And the take-up of our ceremonies in these nations has been extraordinary. In Scotland, there are more humanist weddings than Christian weddings each year. Meanwhile, in England and Wales, couples opting for a humanist ceremony have to undergo a separate legal wedding in a registry office. Please – help us bring an end to this inequality.
