The LGBT community in the Netflix age: an interactive exploration of LGBT portrayal on TV

LGBT characters have been portrayed on TV in many ways since the 1960s, from camp comedy, to villains, to out and proud members of a wider community. Sometimes this follows public opinion, and sometimes it has led public opinion, but in both cases the portrayal of LGBT characters has often created controversy.

This event will discuss the general trend of LGBT characters and ask a series of questions about what we see. Are the characters a good reflection of the LGBT community? And what will the future of LGBT characters look like?

We hope you join us for this stimulating and interactive discussion. The event will be led by Teddy Prout, Humanists UK's Director of Community Services, and facilitated by Lizzie Streeter and David Christmas of LGBT Humanists.
