Learn about Apostasy

Join Humanists UK’s Faith to Faithless programme for our ‘Learn About Apostasy’ Safeguarding Training Event.

Leaving religion can be a complicated process, and apostates often experience abuse from their family and communities. Emotional and physical abuse, shunning and disownment are all too common. Confusion, isolation and loneliness can lead to depression. Physical abuse, often referred to as honour violence is common. In Britain, it is often particularly hard for ex-Evangelical Christians, ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, ex-Muslims and ex-Ultra-Orthodox Jews.

Our safeguarding training has been developed to inform frontline services on apostasy and to support them with best practice. The police, social services, NHS workers, teachers and charities are encouraged to take this training. During this event, you will learn about the difficulties the ex-religious face and hear from apostates who have left different faiths. Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity for Q&A with the speakers.

We hope you'll join us for what promises to be an informative and thought-provoking evening.

Please note this event will be filmed for promotional use.

Tickets are complimentary and offered on a first to register basis.
