Apostasy in the UK | Lancaster

Belief in a religion is a fundamental human right and with it is the right to not believe. Unfortunately, this is not afforded to everyone, and for some people in Britain leaving their religion can be a complicated, challenging, and dangerous process.

Apostates can bring shame and dishonour to a family, and as a result apostates often experience emotional and physical abuse. Faith to Faithless works with people who have left any religion or cult including ex-Evangelical Christians, ex-Ultra-Orthodox Jews, ex-Muslims, ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, and others.

This event will be led by Imtiaz Shams, co-founder of Faith to Faithless and Hari Parekh. Having experienced difficulty leaving Islam, Imtiaz set up the organisation to raise awareness of apostasy in the UK and provide support to others leaving religion.

Hari Parekh is an apostate of Hinduism and has worked with Humanists UK as a Regional Development Officer for the East Midlands and President for Humanist Students.

There will be an opportunity for Q&A.
