That the climate is changing – and the planet heating – is a scientific fact, and it is human activity that is the overarching cause. Human ingenuity brought about scientific, technological, industrial, and political advancements, which, in turn have allowed more people than ever before to enjoy a higher quality of life. But whether through self-deception or wilful blindness, society is only recently waking up to the devastating side-effects on our planet, and the problems we’re storing up for the future. The increasingly extreme weather events of the last few years suggest this time may not be so far away.

Climate change is a human problem. It must have a human solution. Just as our historic systems of science, technology, industry, and politics have enabled us to pollute our planet, so we must look to using and reforming these tools to preserve it. We can all play our part, because we must.

Humanist Climate Action is a volunteer-led network of Humanists UK members and supporters committed to redefining lifestyles and campaigning for policies that promote low-carbon, ethical, and sustainable living in the light of the degeneration of the Earth’s climate and biodiversity. It aims to bring humanists together to facilitate individual and collective action on these issues.
