Launched in June 2010 as part of Humanist Week, the Humanist Heritage project aims to produce accessible and engaging resources on the history of Humanism in the UK and Ireland.
The project is run by BHA volunteers with support from BHA staff and is underpinned by 5 principles:
1) Relevance – to the world today
2) Interest – for audiences
3) Inclusiveness – of beliefs and contributors
4) Fairness – and impartiality
5) Courtesy – even if there is disagreement
www.humanistheritage.org.uk is a website that allows people to find out more about historical figures – and the places in the United Kingdom and Ireland associated with them – who have influenced humanist and secularist thinking or demonstrated humanist ideals in their lives. The project encourages people to submit material for the site about their local area and how it relates to Humanism and secularism.
