Natasha Walter is a writer and campaigner. She is the author of Before the Light Fades: A Memoir of Grief and Resistance (Virago 2023), as well as the influential feminist book Living Dolls: the Return of Sexism (2010). She has worked as a journalist and columnist for the Guardian and the Independent. She is also the author of another non-fiction book, The New Feminism (1998) and a novel, A Quiet Life (2016). She is the founder of the charity Women for Refugee Women, where she was the director for 15 years, and she has been Visiting Professor of Women's Rights at Cambridge University and Junior Teaching Fellow at the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University. She is currently researching her next book, Feminism for a World On Fire, and working with several organisations on raising awareness of and building responses to the climate and nature emergencies.

Her father was leading humanist and freethinker Nicolas Walter. An engaging writer and principled activist, Walter’s career was diverse and his influence widespread. He was a formidable campaigner against the laws governing blasphemy and assisted dying, as well as a veteran activist for peace and nuclear disarmament. He was also the former editor of New Humanist.
